Houston offers many different pottery classes in various areas of town so you don’t have to venture too far from home to learn this awesome skill. From beginner to intermediate lessons, BYOB pottery classes for a girl’s night out or birthday party, there are many ways to experience the fun of pottery.
Montrose
Tucked in between many businesses right after you cross the popular Montrose intersection, Foelber Pottery offers many different types of classes for adults and children of all skill levels. The entire space is a studio for various artists, so there is plenty of high quality equipment for students to use and enjoy. Classes for adult beginners are $170 for a five week session, meeting once a week for 2 hours. Plus, Foelber provides all of the supplies. The studio is also available for parties, team building, bridal showers and other events.
Cypress/Tomball
Located in the popular Vintage Park shopping center as you head from the Cypress area and towards Tomball is Potter’s Wheel. Offer many different classes in a more casual setting, adult classes are $180 for 4 sessions, meeting up to 4 times a week for 2.5 hours each, so no matter your schedule you can enjoy a class. Children’s classes are only $100 for 4 classes and they offer times that work well with either homeschooled children or those that attend regular school hours. Potter’s Wheel also offers Paint Your Own Pottery nights where you can choose a piece of decor or dinnerware and paint it yourself, then pick up the finished piece after they fire it for you.
Kingwood
Martin Galleries is run by two Kingwood artists out of their own home workshop right near beautiful Lake Houston. Stephanne and John Martin are two prominent artists who have had their pottery displayed in many restaurants and homes around Texas. You can sign up to take full 6 week intensive courses from them, or simply try out one of their fun Corks ‘n Clay classes which are BYOB and are designed for groups to have a more laid back atmosphere while they learn. If you hurry now, they are having a special deal on the Corks ‘n Clay on Groupon for a half off discount! The 6 week course runs a few times a year, and is subject to availability, but the Corks ‘n Clay classes go by reservation numbers and are run on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
With this many options all throughout the Houston Metro area to learn the beautiful skill of pottery making, it is definitely a must try. Whether you opt for the super casual BYOB approach, take a more intensive course with talented artists, or even send the kids so they learn new skills and have a blast doing it, pottery is a great hobby.
