One of the most notable schools in the Houston area is St. John’s School, which has been providing high quality education for more than 60 years. Located on Westheimer near the residential neighborhood of River Oaks, this school has gained an incredible reputation for getting students ready for college and careers starting from kindergarten to 12th grade.
Since St. John’s was founded by Houston W. St. John Garwood in 1946, it has grown tremendously over the years with a current enrollment of 1225 students. However, the classrooms are kept small to allow for the personal development of each student. The faculty and staff, which total over 200, are dedicated to keeping a learning environment to help the students achieve the greatest accomplishments.
In recent years, the school has been recognized by many respectable sources as one of the top schools in Houston. Even Forbes.com has noted the school as being one of “America’s elite prep schools,” and it was named the best private school in Houston by The New York Times.
St. John’s also promotes the importance of community service in all grade levels and keeps students aware of what’s happening in the world outside of the school, allowing students to participate in positive activities that give back to the Houston community. It is also one of the few only schools in the U.S. with a wellness program to constantly evaluate their educational program, making sure that students are getting the best education emotionally, mentally, and physically.
Parents may appreciate St. John’s weekly Chapel service. While the structure is Christian, students are given the opportunity to growth spiritually within their own religion, as well be sensitive to others.
Consider sending your children to St. John’s School to provide them with a great education that will create many opportunities for them in the future. Visit the link below to get more familiar with the admissions process and see more of what this school has to offer!

Hello: I spent two wonderful years coaching and teaching at St John’s during the late 80’s. Anyone remember me or my wife Dr.Julie B Ealy. I taught chem and Doc taught Bio. She received her PhD from Columbia University in Chemistry and I did not finished as we moved away from NYC. Julie is now an Associate Professor Chemistry at Penn State University, I am retired from Cedar Crest College and now adjunct in chem, physics, and bio at PSU -LV
We miss our friends, entertainment, west end and the people in general.
