Kerr High School is one of the best high schools in the Houston area for students who are interested in independent studies. This non-traditional system of education gives students the opportunity to control their education by setting their own flexible pace of learning, consulting with teachers when it is required or for additional help. What was once an experimental school, is now a consistently high academically performing school that tops Alief ISD charts.
Each course taken is packaged for the student, known as a Personal Activity Kit (PAK), containing objectives, instructions, reading materials, assignments, and projects. While students are provided with a suggested timeline of completion and mandatory deadlines, self-study allows for a student to move faster through courses they easily understand and dedicate more time to studies they need help with.
While the school doesn’t have any athletic programs, there are a vast array of extracurricular clubs and organization including choir, art, and band.
