The Houston education system has done extremely well in recent years, and another local charter school is being honored for their tireless efforts. KIPP charter schools, one of Houston’s strongest educational systems, won the coveted Broad Prize for nation’s best public charter system. The wonderful news was shared by the Houston Chronicle last week and this is great news for parents and students who are a part of the KIPP family.
The KIPP charter schools originated in Houston, and currently educate 58,000 students around the United States. The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation in California grants the prize every year to the best charter school system based on levels of academic achievement. The award includes $250,000 to support college preparation efforts such as scholarships, guest speakers, and campus visits.
YES Prep is another Houston charter school who won the award in 2012, and KIPP is just adding to the already great reputation of schools in our city and nation. Houston area schools have been extremely successful because our community strongly supports education and wants to see our students succeed. The many programs and efforts to make education a priority are paying off. Do you have a student at KIPP charter school? How did you decide that it was the right decision for your family?
