We love our city and everything that it has to offer! If you are looking for a family friendly neighborhood for a move, Houston has some popular havens and hidden gems! Here are a few of the best neighborhoods for families across Houston:

West University – Rice Military or West U., is an upper middle class neighborhood near Hermann Park and the Museum District, located inside the Interstate 610 loop, about 15 minutes from downtown and a mile from Rice University. It’s also located near the largest medical center in the nation. It’s really a small town within the city of Houston, since have their own government, police and unlike the city itself, zoning restrictions. While there are empty nesters that still reside in the area, for more than two decades this neighborhood has been the perfect sanctuary to raise children and enjoy the best of the city.

Eastwood – This historic neighborhood was one of Houston’s first master planned communities developed in 1913. Only a mile away from downtown, the Dynamo Stadium and the historical East End area, it will also soon be host to two metro light rails. It’s a close-knit neighborhood with the history and character of The Heights and Montrose, without the large price tag. Great for young executives who enjoy an urban environment, while enjoying the community feel of a neighborhood.

Linkwood – There are several neighborhoods in the southwest side of Houston with homes built around the 1940s to 1970s that were well maintained by their upper middle class owners. Within these neighborhoods is Linkwood, a 174-lot subdivision and one of the smallest in city. The small one-story homes were erected in the 1950s on relatively large lots, and the neighborhood has strived to keep maintain that style while areas around it tear down the older homes to build mcmansions. It’s a cozy subdivision where everyone knows their neighbors! What’s more, is that it’s only 30 minutes away from downtown and ten from the medical center.

Hunter’s Creek Village – A part of the Memorial Villages, Hunter’s Creek was built in 1954 and is one of the wealthiest areas in Harris County, with homes ranging from $100,000 to several million, and a minimum of half an acre lot size. The area has its own highly accredited school system, Spring Branch Independent School District, and is a partial reason why property values are so high. It’s the ideal haven for corporate executives, near uptown and the Galleria and minutes away from downtown.

The Woodlands – This area is a city within itself, with its own neighborhoods, schools, malls, hotels, hospitals and corporate parks. It’s 27 miles away from Houston and was built on a wooded terrain of Spring, Texas. Since 1974, Houston has expanded into the surrounding areas, but the Woodlands still has their own 6,000 acres of protected forest, with 200 miles of walking and biking trail as well as 125 parks.

Each neighborhood has their district features, but are wonderful family environments. Think there are any we missed? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
