Would you like to buy a River Oaks style home with the same history, but without the River Oaks price tag? Check out Riverside Terrace, you’ll be amazed by their beautiful homes in the great area of downtown Houston.
Riverside Terrace was established in the 1930s by prominent Jewish families of Houston who built their homes on the hilly landscape of southern downtown overlooking Brays Bayou. A large portion of the neighborhood was torn down in the 1960s to make room for Highway 288 but the community remained strong and refusing to dissipate as desegregation brought in affluent African American families for an even richer history and community. In recent years, Riverside Terrace has greatly improved construction as more people are moving back to the historic neighborhood in order to refurbish the old mansions built decades ago.
There are a number of amenities that make this a great neighborhood including the proximity to downtown’s Hermann Park, the Medical Center and the Museum District. There is also MacGregor Park which is a fun and safe recreation area for the residents of Riverside Terrace.
The neighborhood is zoned to many great HISD schools including: Lockhart Elementary, Ryan Middle School, and Lamar High School. There are also a few private schools nearby that serve many Riverside Terrace residents including: St. Mary’s Catholic School (PK-5) and St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School (6-8).
Riverside Terrace could be the perfect place for a family that needs a lot of place, easy access to the main areas of Houston and can appreciate old century charms. What do you look for in purchasing a new home? Does Riverside Terrace make the cut?
