Houston has become a master at hidden communities with amazing amenities and quiet suburbs away from busy city streets. Sienna Plantation is a great escape for families looking for a range of activities close to home and a secure neighborhood beaming with pride.
Located in-between Sugar Land and Missouri City, Sienna Plantation is a 7,000 acre master-planned community that is easy to get lost in. It may feel as though you are on a small vacation everyday with the seemingly endless amount of resort-style amenities available to residents, including a 12 acre recreation complex, a few lakes, 36 parks and playgrounds, fitness facilities, tennis courts, miles of walking trails, and a golf club featuring a challenging 18-hole course, pro shop and full service restaurant. This community also contains 3 resort style water parks, with water slides, waterfalls, and separate pools for children and adults.
The strong sense of community is hard to miss as this neighborhood has a dedicated recreational staff that organizes plenty of activities, sports and classes for all age groups throughout the year, creating opportunities for neighbors to become life-long friends.
However, before Sienna Plantation became the vast, fun community it is now, it played a crucial role in Texas history with plenty of owners and rich land filled with cotton crops and sugar cane traced back to the 1820s. Sienna Plantation was originally apart of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” colony settlement, afterwards it changed hands 5 times before the 7 unmarried Scanlan sisters inherited the estate from their father in 1906. In 1937, the 2 remaining sisters named the land Sienna Plantation after Siena in Italy and for St. Catherine of Siena, a known patron saint of single women.
The community as we know it today has been thriving for the past 16 years, with homes on the market ranging from $170,000 to more than $1 million. This neighborhood seems to shake up the middle and upper classes, bring in diversity, high-quality education and endless growing potential in South Houston.
While the high acclaimed Fort Bend Independent School District serves the area, residents can feel at ease as those schools are located right on site, including 3 elementary schools, a middle school and a new high school. Private schools, daycares and Houston Community College are also easy to get to inside of the neighborhood.
In all, we’d say Sienna Plantation is perfect for both active and retired families alike. The way this neighborhood encourages fun in the outdoors, staying in good health shouldn’t be a problem. If Missouri City is your next move, Sienna Plantation has everything you need with plenty to spare!
