We heart Houston. The best people heart Houston, frankly. And at the We Heart Houston Fest, there’ll be movies, music, food and beer specifically designed for the Houston enthusiast in you.
Join the Houston movement at Summer Street Studios on Saturday, November 8th after 5 pm. It’s $10 at the door, but if you ride your bike, you’ll save $2! Just show them your bike when you pay for your ticket! There is free parking available but it’s first-come, first-serve. Sales benefit Byke, a Houston-based program that provides free bikes and repairs to Houston’s inner city youth. We Heart Houston Fest is also fido-friendly, and Modular, one of the food truck vendors, is hosting a doggie lounge with doggie refreshments.
Rushmore, the movie hosted by Alamo Draft House Cinemas, is the romanticized amalgam of writers Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson about their high school days in Texas and was filmed almost entirely in Houston, according to High Beam Research. It parallels Owen Wilson’s experience of getting expelled from St. Mark’s School of Texas, and you’ll recognize Rushmore as Houston’s own St. John’s School, with Lamar High School also making an appearance as the defunct Grover Cleveland High School where the main character is forced to attend. If you like whimsey with a bit of Houston flare, Wes Anderson delivers. Bring chairs and blankets to get comfortable—the screening starts at 7:30.
Music is hosted by Cactus Music and features the local band “Young Girls.” The show will begin at 6pm, so if you’re looking to jam, you’ll have plenty of time to get a beer, food and grab a spot. The beer is being sponsored by Karbach Brewing Co. (a Houston-based brewing company), and there’s copious food from the likes of The Modular (a food truck that features the likes of soft shell crap sandwiches, lobster risotto, beef sausage dogs, and crispy tuna tacos), Rubbed Right BBQ, and What’s Up Cupcake who will be on-site selling treats!
There will also be numerous vendors on site with cool booths and apparel like Ham Cycles, a Montrose-based full service bike shop that you might have heard of if you’re part of the cycling community as they have a MS150 team, a racing team and they regularly host non-sanctioned cycling events all over Texas. Brewheart Apparel, another Houston-based company will also be there serving the crowd. Clearly, they are lovers of craft beers: and craft beer enthusiasts need beer lover apparel and accessories!
With all these great Houston-based vendors, it’s sure to be a great time! Be sure to stop by It’s Photobomb, Houston’s newest Photo Booth experience, to ensures you’ll have testimony of all the fun!
