The city of Houston is known for its wide variety of authentic food that is sure to satisfy any appetite. For this reason, many restaurateurs have packed up and moved to Houston in order to take on new business ventures.
One famous chef and native Houstonian has recently moved back home with the plans of opening a new restaurant in River Oaks. His name is Ford Fry and for the past few years, he has been cooking for his five restaurants in Atlanta. Fry has gained a great reputation during his short tenure in Atlanta and hopes he can continue to do the same in Houston.
Fry’s seafood restaurant, The Optimist, was picked as Best New Restaurant of 2012 by Esquire food critic John Mariani and finished seventh in the nation on Bon Appetit magazine’s list. To add more fuel to the fire, he has recently opened two new restaurants. which are also doing well in Atlanta.
Fry’s restaurant will be on Westheimer Rd. directly across from his alma mater, Lamar High School. Ford Fry is extremely excited to have his new restaurant in the spot because he grew up in this neighborhood and graduated high school across the street. “I just thought it was a perfect location for us,” he says, “as I grew up blocks away from there.”
He has not yet decided on a name for his new restaurant but the few details he did give out include, “oyster bar, wood-burning elements, and chef’s pass dining element.” Look for the grand opening of Ford Fry’s new restaurant in early 2015!
