Jus’ Mac, a Houston original, doesn’t mess around with turns of phrase or descriptive adjectives for the food they deliver. The message is clear—you want Mac n’ Cheese? You got it. And with three locations in the Houston area, it seems Houston’s a market that jus’ loves mac.
The website appears to be slightly under construction, but there is a terrifically convenient function where you can order online. The menu is exquisitely simple, especially when you’re craving the comfort of the familiar—or even something that flips the familiar on its head. I was impressed by the Goat Cheese Mac I got off the “Radical” Mac n Cheese menu. It was luscious… and came in a conservative portion size and a ‘very hungry’ size. As I was very hungry at the time, two guesses what size I chose. The tons of great add-ins available really upped the ante for me. They even let you pick the type of noodles—wheat, regular or low-carb.
I took one of my friends with the palate of a toddler (except that she doesn’t eat it if it touches the floor anymore… most of the time) and she was very excited by the second portion of the menu that’s called the “Conservative” portion and is more nostalgic with classic mac ‘n cheese options. Judging by the number of kids here, they were excited, too. This place is unpretentious and celebrates the pan-generational love for cheesy noodles with bread crumbs. Who wouldn’t want to celebrate that?
In fact, the atmosphere is excellent for the whole family since the options are varied but, all fall under the same umbrella (with few exceptions). Jus’ Mac works for your picky grandpa because who doesn’t like cheese and noodles? Jus’ Mac works for your picky children because cheese and noodles is a pretty recognizable dish. Jus’ Mac works for your picky friends who do not WANT to eat sushi with you, all they want is cheese… and/or noodles (and here, there’s both!). Jus’ Mac seems to jus’ work with jus’ about everybody. What are you waiting for?
