In my unending exploration of Houston sushi, Osaka Japanese Restaurant gets two thumbs up for expense, quality and overall deliciousness. There are plenty of perks that make dining at Osaka a total joy—and I’m busting them on their secrets!
First, there’s parking. Yes, this is one Montrose restaurant where parking isn’t going to be a problem! It’s shocking and a huge perk, especially for those of us who live in the area and are constantly parking several blocks away, riding bikes or walking just because parking can get to be such a hassle in our neighborhood. Then there’s the staff. Each time I walk into Osaka I’m cheerfully greeted and any employee I’ve ever spoken to has been not just courteous, but positively warm.
Osaka’s food is a great middle-ground in expense for the quality. It’s not cheap (and I usually worry about sushi that is), but compared to some of the other sushi restaurants in the immediate area like Uchi, and a little further out; Kata Robata; Osaka delivers consistently fresh, delicious fish on beautiful displays. They make it possible to order quite a bit on a small budget, and trust me you’ll want to! So many of their rolls are tasty creative combinations that shouldn’t be passed up so, I definitely recommend bringing a friend so you can eat off their plate!
The greatest bit about Osaka I saved for last because it really is the most exciting part. The people at Osaka are so sweet, wonderful, great, kind, and perfect that you get FREE appetizers! Free fried shrimp basil guys (What are they even called? Does anyone really care when they’re so good?) in addition to shrimpy wonton balls that are more than out of this world! And at the end of your meal when you have gorged yourself on their stunning, delicious rolls, guess what? There’s FREE ice cream!!! No wonder this place has earned a 4-star Yelp rating, you can’t beat free and delicious!
Head over to one of Osaka Japanese Restaurant’s two locations in the Houston area to fill up on bold flavors and free appetizers without breaking the bank!
